Need for Speed
In the fast-paced world of e-commerce fulfillment, meeting throughput rates and delivery targets are key performance metrics that distribution center (DC) operators are always trying to improve upon. With consumers expecting next- and same-day shipping (even within two to four hours) — and SKU counts and order volumes on the rise — achieving the gains needed to meet consumer demands with traditional fulfillment strategies is becoming increasingly difficult. Fortunately, recent advances in automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) shuttles and goods-to-person (GTP) technologies are emerging to meet these growing inventory management and order fulfillment challenges.
Honeywell Intelligrated has designed an integrated AS/RS shuttle and GTP solution that leverages speed enhancements and key design elements to deliver the throughput rates to match the speed and complexity of modern e-commerce and omnichannel retail.
By integrating with Momentum WES, our AS/RS precisely orchestrates the movement of cases and totes in and out of the rack system. This provides smart allocation and GTP station assignment while enabling dynamic storage capabilities that match available space with incoming inventory size and shape attributes.
Learn more about AS/RS shuttle and GTP station integration in our article.
